Crocheted Backhoe Loader/Digger

/

Someone recently requested that I make tractor similar to Scoop from Bob The Builder and this is what I came up with.

I'm going to make another for my son so i'll take some progress shots as i'm doing it and then post the pattern here

Giggle and Hoot Crochet Pattern

I do not mind if you sell any Hoot's that you make but please do not sell or post this pattern anywhere else. Also, i'd love to see pictures of anything you guys make with this pattern. Email them to me at sixlittlemice@gmail.com and i'll post them here!

Materials
To make Hoot you will need:
A crochet hook (I used a 3.5mm)
Yarn in the following colours: Blue, Orange, Cream, White and Black
Tapestry needle
Polyfill Stuffing
Tiny piece of black felt for the pupils

Abbreviations
Sc- Single crochet
Dc- Double crochet
Hdc- Half double crochet
Ch- Chain
sc2tog- Single crochet 2 together. To sc2tog: insert your hook into a stitch and draw up a loop. Then insert your hook into the next stitch and draw up a loop. Finally, yarn over (yo) and draw through all 3 loops on your hook.

If you're unsure on how to do a magic ring there's a great video tutorial that explains how to do it on this page: http://www.hookandneedles.com/2008/03/22/amigurumi-tutorial-1/

Eyes (Make 2)
In white yarn:
(Note that the second eye you complete will be done a little differently than the first. Once you finish Rd 6 turn your work so you are now working back in the same direction you just came from and then continue with Rd7)

Round 1: 6sc in Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: 2sc in each sc around (12)
Round  3: *2sc in next sc, sc 1* repeat around (18)
Round  4: * 2sc in next sc, sc 2* repeat around (24)
Round  5: *2sc in next sc, sc 3* repeat around (30)
Change colour to cream
Round  6: *2sc in next sc, sc 4 * repeat around (36)
Round 7: sc in next 2, hdc in next 3, dc in next 3
Fasten off

Wings (Make 2)
In orange yarn:
Chain 6
Round 1:sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 ch (5)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in same st, sc to last st, 2sc in last sc (7)
Round 3-4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc to last st(7)
Round 5: Ch 1, 2sc in same st, sc to last st, 2sc in last sc (9)
Round 6-7:  Ch 1, sc in same st, sc to last st(9)
Round 8: Ch1, hdc in same st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc, sl st in next st, hdc, dc in next 2 sts, hdc
Now we're going to neaten up the sides of the wings by single crocheting around the edges of the entire wing.
Fasten off
In black yarn, sew around the edges of one wing and make horizontal lines across the other.

Feet (Make 2)
To make one foot you will need to make 3 identical toes.
Toe (Make 3 for each foot):

Round 1: 6sc in Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *2sc, sc in next sc* around (9)
Round 3-5: sc around (9)
Fasten off.

Do this twice more so you have 3 toes all together

Now we need to join the toes together so we can crochet the feet. I use a tapestry needle and the tail from the toes to do this but if your tails aren't long enough just use yarn. The arrows in the below picture show  where I stitch the toes together. I join the toes by sewing two sc's from on toe to 2 sc's from another.

The arrows in the above picture show where I stitch the toes together. I join the toes by sewing two sc's from on toe to 2 sc's from another.
Once that is done you should have something that looks like this
Round 6:  sc around
Round 7: sc2tog around
Round 8-12: sc around

Heart
Round 1:  Sc into Magic Ring 7 times, pull closed and join with sl st
Round 2: Sl st in first stitch, 5 hdc in second stitch, hdc in next two stitches, hdc chain 1 hdc in bottom stitch, hdc in nect two stitches, 5 hdc in next stitch, sl st
Fasten off
In black yarn sew around the edges of the heart.

Body and Head
The body and head are one piece and is crocheted from the bottom upwards.
In Blue yarn:
Round 1: 6sc in Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: 2sc in each sc around (12)
Round 3: *2sc in next sc, sc 1* repeat around (18)
Round 4: * 2sc in next sc, sc 2* repeat around (24)
Round 5: *2sc in next sc, sc 3* repeat around (30)
Round 6: *2sc in next sc, sc 4 * repeat around (36)
Round 7:*2sc in next sc, sc 5* repeat around (42)
Round 8:*2sc in next sc, sc 6 * repeat around (48)
Round 9:*2sc in next sc, sc 7* repeat around (54)
Round 10-22: 1sc in each sc (54)
Round 23: *2sc in next sc, sc 1* repeat around (81)
Round 24-40: sc around (81)

I find that now is a really good time to sew on the eyes, heart and wings and feet. You don't need to finish off or cut the yarn but just take care while sewing that you don't sew your working yarn to the inside of Hoot

Round 41: sc2tog, sc 1* repeat around (54)
Round 42: sc2tog, sc 7* repeat around (48)
Round 43: sc2tog, sc 6* repeat around (42)
Round 44: sc2tog, sc 5* repeat around (36)
Round 45:sc2tog, sc 4* repeat around (30)
Stuff firmy now.
Round 46: sc2tog, sc 3* repeat around (24)
Round 47: sc2tog, sc 2* repeat around (18)
Round 48: sc2tog, sc 1* repeat around (12)
Round 49: sc2tog* repeat around (6)
Fasten off

Beak
Hoots beak was just embroidered  on using orange yarn

Try changing the colours to make Hootabelle

Hi!

Hi! I'm Krystal. I am a stay at home mother to my little boy, Oli.

In my spare time I like to be crafty. My family often joke that i'm secretly a Grandma trapped in a 20-something year old body. I love to crochet, bake, sew, woodwork and I've recently started gathering supplies to start a scrapbook for my son so we'll see how that goes.

I don't really know what else to write here. Hopefully i'll be adding plenty of recipes and patterns in the coming months so watch this space I guess.
